Our History

The buildings that we have expertly cared for and restored to allow the full recovery and enhancement are “Casabella” and the “Fornace”. “Casabella” is an ancient dwelling, owned by the friars of the abbey of Montesenario, built in the middle of 1500. At the end of ‘ 700 by the will of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Pietro Leopoldo The hermitage of Monte Senario was suppressed and became a place open to visits of pilgrims, was and is still one of the most important sanctuaries of Tuscany. In 1796, the monks of the monastery of Montesenario built a dwelling to allow the numerous pilgrims, who reached the sanctuary on foot from Florence after an entire day of walking, eating and sleeping.

In 1866 a law of the Italian Government suppresses the religious bodies, the convent of Monte Senario is requisitioned, along with all the properties of the monks, including “Casabella”, which becomes property of the state, but the following year is purchased by the family Ginori. We are in the middle of a private property of 100 hectares, just 20 minutes drive from the center of Florence. All the fully refurbished apartments 5 years ago have ample private parking available in front of the house.

The history of the building the “Fornace” is really very interesting! 3 km from the “Fornace” in a locality called Pratolino, there was a beautiful Medicean Villa built by the will of Francesco I Dè Medici who commissioned the architect Buontalenti to create a beautiful park and enrich it with fountains, statues, baths and Incredible water games, from upstream to the valley was a continuous succession of waterfalls and ponds in order to amaze the European courts with a grandiose scenic effect and sound. To realize the project, it was necessary to bring water from the Montesenario spring to the Medicean Villa in Pratolino and that was how Buontalenti designed the “fornace”, where the terracotta piping needed to build the aqueduct will be produced. The place where “La Fornace” was built was chosen both for the characteristics of the surrounding terrain, rich in clay, and for its closeness to the Medicean Villa of Pratolino and to the Montesenario spring.
